What capacity air conditioner should I look at buying?

There are a number of factors such as location, heat load and insulation that need to be considered when choosing the correct capacity air conditioner. You need effective and efficient cooling/heating in your home or office. We highly recommend you have one of our trained consultants come and work through the solution that is best for you. How does an air conditioner work?

Air conditioners do not generate heat but extract it from one body of air and transfer it to another. They use the same principle as your fridge, compressing gas and then allowing it to expand, extracting heat as it does so.

Even if the air outside is freezing, air conditioners can extract heat energy and transfer it inside to keep you warm. In summer the system works in reverse, extracting heat from indoors and transferring it outside leaving you comfortable and cool.

What is the warranty on an air conditioner?

General warranty on parts and labour is 5 years from date of purchase.

What types of air conditioning systems are there?

There are various types of air conditioning Systems:

  • Single-split system (one indoor unit and one outdoor unit) suitable for an individual room.
  • Multi-split system (multiple indoor units connected to one outdoor unit) suitable for multiple room situations.
  • Ducted systems. Whole home solutions with one outdoor unit connected to one or more concealed indoor unit with the heating and cooling distributed via ducting to individual rooms.

Can I have different temperatures in different rooms or different zones?

Yes you can depending on which type of system you install.

How often should you maintain your air conditioning system?

Residential is usually annually however if you use the system extensively we would suggest every six months. Commercial systems are generally quarterly.

How often should I clean my filters?

Air conditioners draw the dust from your home in through the filters. If these are not clean it will reduce the efficiency of the system and may cause operation issues. Filters should be cleaned every 2 to 3 months depending on usage and whether you have pets. Remove filters and take them outside. Use a water hose to spray them clean. DO NOT VACUUM. Make sure the filters are dry before reinstalling.

My ducted air conditioner is not cooling, what should I do?

Check the filter in the return air. It may be blocked and need cleaning. To do this, remove the filter from the return air, take it outside and wash it down with a hose, let it dry and reinstall. DO NOT VACUUM. If this does not resolve the issue, please call our office to book a service call.

Does my air conditioner need to be serviced?

Yes, just as you would your car, we recommend maintenance every 12 months. Please call our office to book yours in.

The light on my air conditioner is flashing and it is not working.

This can sometimes be caused by a power surge, try turning the power off and back on at the circuit breaker to reset the system. If this does not resolve the issue, please call our office to book a service call.

There is water coming from my outdoor air conditioning unit. Is that OK?

Yes it is! This is common when the air conditioner is running on heating.

My air conditioner has become very noisy inside. What should I do?

Try cleaning the return air filter, if it is blocked the system will become noisy. To do this, remove the filter from the return air, take it outside and wash it down with a hose, let it dry and reinstall. DO NOT VACUUM. If this does not resolve the issue, please call our office to book a service call.

Check the zone for that area is turned on. If this does not resolve the issue, please call our office to book a service call.

The indoor fan doesn’t start when I put the system on to heat.

When on heat mode the indoor fan will not start until the coil heats up. This is to prevent blowing cold air.

My air conditioner made a loud gushing noise and there was steam coming from the outdoor unit.

Your air conditioner, when on heat mode, may get an ice build-up on the outdoor unit. It will automatically put itself into a defrost function which will give you the gushing sound and the appearance of steam.
